Welcome Reception and Community Forum in Solidarity With Dr. Edith Burgos
Wife of a press freedom fighter… A mother in search for her abducted son… An advocate for truth and justice… Hear her story and be challenged by her message!
Edith Burgos is the mother Jonas Burgos, a young agriculturalist who was abducted in April 2007 allegedly by military agents. Many believe Jonas was abducted because of his activism and support for genuine agrarian reform, as well as organizing other peasants and farmers to advocate for changes in government policies through peaceful means. He was 36 years of age at the time of his abduction. Mrs. Burgos is a secular Carmelite (a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites) and has been speaking extensively on behalf of the Desaparacidos, a rapidly growing national organization of families and loved ones of the disappeared in the Philippines.
