Network on Religion and Justice for API LGBTs

Recognizing a particular need for an API LGBT-affirming, culturally respectful, religious public voice and activist network, PANA played a coordinating role in the founding of the Network on Religion and Justice for Asian and Pacific Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender People (NRJ-API-LGBT) in the fall of 2005. This Network, coordinated since February 2007 by CLGS staff member Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Leung, continues to meet monthly in the PANA offices. PANA is proud to be a leading member of NRJ-API-LGBT.

Working in close collaboration with NRJ-API-LGBT members and with award-winning filmmaker Lina Hoshino, PANA's Civil Liberty and Faith Project created a groundbreaking film, In God's House: Asian American Lesbian and Gay Families in the Church, which premiered at PSR on October 11, 2006. This powerful film, intended to foster open discussion of LGBT issues in Asian American congregations, is available from PANA as a DVD, with accompanying study guide and additional resources.

We invite you to view the trailer of In God's House below, and to consider ordering the DVD for use in your congregation, family or classroom. Please visit the NRJ-API-LGBT website (www.NetRJ.org) or the film website (www.ingodshouse.com) to learn more.

In God's House: Asian American Lesbian and Gay Families in the Church

"It's time for us to have a conversation."

Asian American lesbians and gays have been largely invisible in Christian churches. Some Asian American churches silence the issue for fear of division and conflict. Other Asian American church leaders have condemned homosexuality and publicly protested against same-sex marriage. Yet lesbian and gay Asian Americans and their families worship and serve in churches every day. Where are their voices? This honest and thought-provoking film tells a story that the church needs to hear: that of Asian American Christian lesbian and gay people, their pastors, and their parents.
