APARRI in 2007 and Beyond

Managing Board

The Asian Pacific Americans and Religion Research Initiative (APARRI) is pleased to announce the formation of a new Managing Board. After eight years of steady growth, APARRI has become the primary space for interdisciplinary dialogue on issues of API religion in the U.S., and the new Managing Board, charged with setting long-term direction for the network and conference, has been formed to provide broad-based leadership as APARRI moves into the next stages of its growth. The PANA Institute (Institute for Leadership Development and Study of Pacific and Asian North American Religion), which has been at APARRI's helm for the past six years, will continue as the executive arm and fiscal sponsor of APARRI.

In order to ensure continuity, members of the Managing Board will rotate off at different times over the next four years (dates are indicated below in brackets). We welcome the following members to the new Board:

  • Russell Jeung, San Francisco State University (Managing Board Secretary) [2008]
  • Mimi Khuc, University of California, Santa Barbara [2008]
  • Carolyn Chen, Northwestern University [2009]
  • Su Pak, Union Theological Seminary, NYC [2009]
  • David Yoo, Claremont McKenna College (Managing Board Co-Chair) [2009]
  • Rudy Busto, University of California, Santa Barbara (Managing Board Co-Chair) [2010]
  • Jane Iwamura, University of Southern California [2010]
  • Christopher Chua, Program Director, PANA Institute (APARRI Program Executive) [ex officio]
  • Jeffrey Kuan, Interim Executive Director (Fall 2006-Spring 2007), PANA Institute [ex officio]
  • Fumitaka Matsuoka, Executive Director, PANA Institute [ex officio].

APARRI 2007, 2008, and 2009

As part of the process of assessing and formulating long-term strategy, the Managing Board will convene a leadership retreat in 2007 and wishes to announce that there will be no public APARRI conference in 2007.

Planning, however, has already begun for APARRI 2008 and 2009 — with the University of California, Santa Barbara and Claremont McKenna College among the sites being considered — so mark your calendars! See you all in 2008!
